Koreans have a long history of immigration to the U.S. In 1920, there were 462 Koreans in the U.S., and according to the Census Bureau, there are almost 2 million Koreans as of 2018, making us the fifth largest Asian American group.
Despite the immigration history and size of the Korean community, we are not well reflected in the data important for the country’s policy decisions. This is because surveys, including census, play a pivotal role in producing data, but it is extremely challenging to collect data on minority groups such as us.
Health and Well-Being of Koreans is our attempt to improve conditions for data on the Korean community. Through an innovative recruitment method, we aim to implement an Internet survey in hopes of producing data targeting anyone with Korean heritage all over the country.
